Trans, non-binary and all 2SLGBTQIA+ people may wish to use gender-affirming gear and accessories, regardless of age. These clothing-like items can be used to modify the body's appearance to make it look more “feminine” or “masculine.”
As the body develops during adolescence, and as young people become increasingly concerned with their body image, gender-affirming products can allow 2SLGBTQIA+ people to modify their appearance and feel more comfortable in their own body, as well as in various public spaces.
In an inclusive approach that is attentive to the specific needs of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Laval, the Sphère organization is launching a program to provide gender-affirming supplies free of charge. Items offered include binders, gaffs, packers, and breast prostheses to help people affirm their gender.
Access to these items can thus help reduce gender dysphoria, anxiety and isolation, while promoting gender euphoria and fulfillment in different spheres of their lives.
This garment offers two variations: the half binder which covers half the torso, and the tank binder which wraps the entire torso. Sphere offers the half binder.
A packer refers to a penile prosthesis designed to create a bulge in the underwear, thus providing the illusion that the person wearing it has a penis. A packer can be worn in different ways, such as with an adapted boxer short or a clutch that one hangs on their underwear.
Breast prostheses are designed to create the illusion of a breast or make it more voluminous, replicating a natural shape. They can be made from a variety of materials such as silicone, gel, latex, foam, or fabric.
A gaff is a compressive undergarment designed to safely flatten the genitals, creating a flatter appearance.
A stand-to-pee (S-T-P) is a urinary prosthesis, often but not always phallic in shape, characterized by a hollow center ending in an orifice allowing one to urinate standing up.
This prosthesis offers the person the possibility of urinating standing up, whether at urinals, outdoors, or in a toilet. This ease can help reduce gender dysphoria and anxiety associated with public restrooms, and promote a sense of belonging and well-being.
Trans tape is a stretch tape with a strong adhesive. This tape is used to reposition the breast to create the appearance of a flatter or more masculine breast.
The program is intended Laval residents who use the organization's services. To place an order, people must come to the organization to see, try on, and choose their items. If the order is made through an online supplier, delivery can be made to the organization or to a location of their choice.
The program offers participants two alternatives: option 1, a single order during the fiscal year, with a budget capped at $130, or option 2, which allows for two annual orders, each limited to a maximum budget of $65.
Those interested can visit the website and choose their items online or from the Sphère inventory. The inventory includes binders and gaffs of various sizes, also available for trying on.
